Clara and Mr. Tiffany
Written by Susan Vreeland
PS 3572 .R34 C63 2011

This is a fictional story written about real people. The main character Clara Driscoll works for Mr. Louis Comfort Tiffany, helping to create beautiful jaw-dropping masterful pieces of art with stained glass in an era where women were not expected to have a career and managing “her girls”. Mr. Tiffany has an odd rule about the women who work for him; I’ll let you find that out for yourself.

And, like the complex and detailed work of stained glass, Vreeland writes in all the drama, smudgy details, and the near comic opera-ness of Clara’s life. Sometimes Clara’s life was not as clear-cut and beautiful as the art she created.

Our CWC Library has both the audio-book and the book.

The Camel Club
Written by David Baldacci
Audio book

Talk about a condensed - fast paced political intrigue/terrorist plot, presented in a way that doesn’t lose you along the way!! There are quite a few characters to sort out at first, which is tricky when it is an audio book. You can’t just flip back a few pages to remember who is who, but it is worth the time. Packs lots of conspiracy in a few disks. This is one of a series, and it makes you want to read more.

If you like old movies, you are gonna love this one. Charlie Chaplin does a great job playing a dual role of the good guy and the bad guy. Don't worry, It's not a silent movie. However, it is in black and white.

My Stroke of Insight
Written by Jill Bolte Taylor
RC 388.5 .T387 2009

This is one of those books that makes you thankful the author took the time to write it. Taylor’s story would have been remarkable even if she hadn’t had a stroke at age 37 and healed from it.

The stroke cut off Taylor’s ability to think with the linear, logical way we’re used to; instead, she was suddenly much more connected to the unseen forces that unite us.

Taylor wrote the book to help stroke victims and their families, but it helps all of us understand the truth of our depths and expanse of our beings.
