Hannah's February Staff Pick

Hiking Wyoming
Bill Hunger
WYOMING GV 199.42 .W8 H87 2008

This book happens to be a Falcon Guide which are not always the most specific, reliable books, but they do give a decent overview of their subject. This one is about hiking in Wyoming, something you can do even in the snow!! I highly recommend getting out and seeing our beautiful state this winter, it will keep you in good shape for those weekends you aren’t able to go skiing! It’s also a great time to hike because, although this is bear country, they’re all hibernating… If you are looking for some near-by hikes, look in the West-Central Wyoming portion of this book. Enjoy and remember to be prepared.

Swedish Handcraft
Anna-Maja Nyen
OVERSIZE TT 89 N9513
This is a book about Swedish arts and handcrafts. I found it while shelving books one day. I think it's a great book to just flip through, there are so many cool knits and patterns and things in general that Swedish people have taken the time and effort to make.

Into the Wild
Written by Jon Krakauer
CT 9971 M38 K73 1997
I love this book; it's about a young guy named Chris McCandless who didn't want to live a "conventional American life." So, he ditches his car and belongings, donates the $25,000 dollars in his college fund, and starts hitchhiking and camping around the U.S. One interesting thing about this book is that the author, Jon Krakauer, had to write this book based on information he collected after Chris' death. Krakauer also includes stories of other people who held lifestyles similar to Chris', to try and provide insight as to why a smart, young, well-to-do guy would choose to live in what many people consider an unconventional way.
